SAFEGUARDING

We comply with ESCB’s (Essex Safeguarding Children Board) document protection guidelines. We intend to create at our kindergarten an environment in which children are safe from abuse and in which any suspicion of abuse is promptly and appropriately responded to. Abuse may be detected
through observations or a disclosure from the child.

All suspicions will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Officer and to the manager, who will in turn contact the LADO

(Local Authority Designated Officer) team for advice or action.

All applicants who work within the kindergarten, whether voluntary or paid, will be interviewed before an appointment is made and will be asked to provide at least two references, which will be
followed up, and to complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Services) form. We will make available to staff, induction and training opportunities to ensure they recognise the symptoms of possible abuse whether neglect, sexual, physical or emotional and are also aware of our monitoring and reporting procedures.

Adults who have not been registered by the DBS will not be alone at any time with the children or accompany them to the toilet.

The layout of the kindergarten permits constant supervision of all the children at all times. Safety is paramount within our kindergarten and risk assessments on all equipment and activities are made on
a regular basis.

We work closely with parents to develop good relationships, based on trust and support. By doing this, we believe we are able to provide for the welfare of our children. The Designated Safeguarding
Officer will contact social care if the kindergarten staff are concerned for a child’s welfare. All staff are trained in child safeguarding issues.

If a parent/carer or a member of staff has any concerns about the welfare or safety of a child in the kindergarten, the matter should be reported to the manager or Designated Safeguarding Officer
whereby the matter will be dealt appropriately on return to the kindergarten. If there is concern and an allegation of suspected abuse is made against a member of staff at the kindergarten, the matter should be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Officer. If an allegation of suspected abuse is made against Designated Safeguarding Officer the matter should be discussed with the owner andthen the relevant action will be taken.
